LHC Acquits Condemned Prisoner

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Sep, 2016 ) : A Lahore High Court division bench on Friday acquitted a condemned prisoner of a murder case. The division bench headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi acquitted the convict, Zafar, for lack of evidence against him.

During the course of proceedings, the defence counsel submitted that there was no solid evidence which showed that the convict was responsible for or associated with the murder. He pleaded the bench to acquit him after setting aside his death sentence.

However, the prosecution opposed the request and contended that the trial court convicted Zafar after recording statement of the eye-witnesses. However, the bench agreed with defence counsel contentions and acquitted the convict. An additional district and sessions judge had awarded death penalty to Zafar for murdering Ashiq Hussain in Jhang in 2009.
