Adviser to PM on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam Khan has urged the bricks kiln owners to shift on Zig-zag technology as it slows down emission of smokes to curb pollution levels.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Sep, 2018 ) :Adviser to PM on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam Khan has urged the bricks kiln owners to shift on Zig-zag technology as it slows down emission of smokes to curb pollution levels.

He stated this while chairing a meeting with the delegation of "Bricks Kiln Owners Association" who called on him here Tuesday. Federal Secretary Climate change Khizar Hayat Khan, DG EPA and other senior officials from the Ministry were also present in the meeting.

Malik Amin Aslam Khan shared with the delegates that Brick kilns fumes are potential sources of PM2.5 which not only pollute the atmosphere but also create many health hazards while Zig-zag technology slows down emission of smokes through the chimneys at brick kilns, allowing particulates to settle and leading to a drastic reduction in pollution. Once implemented country wide, it could help in bringing down the noxious emission from brick kiln said a press release issued here.

President Bricks Owners Association Shoib Niazi apprised the Adviser that they have shifted many bricks kiln units on Zig-Zag technology in Khanewal, Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi districts after getting training from Nepali Experts and they will request the Ministry to arrange a mega scale training sessions for our people for shifting on new technology.

"The investment required for switching over to Zig-Zag is at least Rs 15-20 lacs.

And currently we are doing it on our own" said one of the brick kiln owners.

The delegates informed the Minister that they are ready to convert on new technology but we need constant support of the Ministry to train our human resource and to make this exercise of conversion, cost effective.

Advisor to PM on climate change Malik Amin Aslam Khan said that "with the advent of winter season we face severe "Smog" issue especially in Central and Southern Punjab and traditional bricks kilns, by using traditional methods, contribute to the spread of SMOG. He directed the DG EPA to take all preemptive measures in this regard.

President bricks owners association shared with the advisor that we are ready to close down our bricks production units during SMOG period but requested for a national uniform policy so that our bricks kilns would not be closed for indefinite period, merely on the basis of apprehensions.

Advisor to PM on climate change Malik Amin Aslam Khan assured the delegates that we will provide all possible support to the Brick kilns. He asked the secretary MOCC to call a meeting of all stake holders from all provinces, for deliberations and consultations to ensure that the recommendations of SMOG commission are implemented in letter and spirit by all the provinces, including stoppage of crop burning, controlling vehicular pollution and also keeping track of cross border air pollutants.
