Maulana Asif, Imran Sher Ali declared ineligible to contest election

An appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday declared Tehreek-e-Labbaik leader Maulana Asif Ashraf Jalali ineligible to contest election from NA-81 Gujranwala.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2018 ) :An appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday declared Tehreek-e-Labbaik leader Maulana Asif Ashraf Jalali ineligible to contest election from NA-81 Gujranwala.

The tribunal comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi passed the orders while allowing an appeal filed by rival PML-N covering candidate Atif Fareed Sabir. The tribunal set aside the returning officer's decision of accepting nomination papers of Asif Ashraf Jalali.

The appellant had submitted that neither respondent mentioned his tax returns nor submitted his passport and provided details about his foreign visits in his nomination papers. He pleaded with the tribunal that the respondent was not eligible to contest election under Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution.

Meanwhile, another appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court declared Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Imran Sher Ali ineligible to contest election from PP-117 (Faisalabad).

The tribunal set aside the returning officer's decision of accepting nomination papers of Imran Sher Ali while allowing an appeal filed by a citizen.

The tribunal comprising Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi heard the appeal.

The applicant had pleaded with the court to declare the respondent ineligible for being a defaulter and concealing assets.

It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Sher Ali is brother of former state minister Abid Sher Ali.

Moreover, The tribunal comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi dismissed an appeal against acceptance of nomination papers of former minister Saira Afzal Tarar from Hafizabad, after declaring it non-maintainable.

Rival candidate Shaukat Bhatti had filed the appeal saying that the respondent concealed her assets in nomination papers.
