MIRPUR (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Oct, 2016 ) , Oct 22 (APP): The faculty/academic staff of the state-run Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College Mirpur have threatened to go on indefinite pen-down strike from October 25 to mark protest against the non-payment of salaries to them for last four months.
Announcing this before the reporters here on Saturday, Chairman of AJK Medical Teachers Association Mirpur chapter, Prof. Dr. Faisal Ghafoor Bhopal and a member of the Association Assistant Prof.
Dr. Nisaar Ahmed said that the general body meeting of the faculty of the MBBS Medical College Mirpur took the decision to go on the pen down strike from October 25 if their pending salaries for the last four months were not released by October 24 (Monday) by the authorities, they declared.
Expressing grave concern over fast-deteriorating economic conditions of the MBBS Medical College Mirpur, the faculty's leaders feared that the medical college has reached at the verge of destruction.
"The faculty staff of the college has reached to the stage of starvation because of the non-payment of the salaries for over last four months", they underlined. Since Rs. 200 million were allocated per annum by the federal-government funded MBBS Mirpur Medical college, they strongly suggested immediate enhancement of this allocation to Rs.
1000 million to ensure the smooth functioning of the college project including the salaries of the faculty. It may be added that the allocated funds of Rs. 200 million for the Mirpur-based MBBS Medical college are conditionally released with the 50 percent earmarked for the salaries.
Following the lack of required funds, the deficit of Rs. 15 to Rs. 20 million in salaries is being faced with at present per month.
