Meeting reviews arrangements for monsoon plantation campaign

BAHAWALPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Aug, 2024) A meeting of the District Afforestation Committee was held at the DC Office's committee room under Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters Sumera Rabbani's chairmanship to review arrangements for the Monsoon Tree Planting Campaign 2024. 

The meeting was attended by President of the Chamber of Commerce Chaudhry Zulfiqar Maan, Assistant Commissioner of Bahawalpur City Dr Sana Ramchand, Assistant Commissioner of Bahawalpur Saddar Ahmed Sheer Gondal, Forest Controller Khalid Javed Bhutta, DFO Extension Shahid Hamid, DHO Dr Khalid Channar, DEO education Muhammad Akram, along with officials from the Departments of Agriculture, Environment, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Bahawalpur Development Authority (BDA), and other relevant departments.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner Headquarters stated that evergreen and shade trees should be planted during the Monsoon Tree Planting Campaign. She emphasized the importance of planting trees to protect against environmental pollution and global warming, noting that the monsoon season was conducive to plant growth.

She instructed that saplings be obtained from the Forest Department during the campaign. 

Additionally, she highlighted the need for proper care and irrigation of the plants, ensuring that soil preparation is done adequately before planting and that regular watering is arranged.

She also mentioned that after planting, there should be field inspections of the plants, and a follow-up committee should be formed for this purpose. 

Earlier, the Forest Controller informed the meeting about the significance and utility of the plants and briefed on the arrangements made for the monsoon tree planting throughout the district. 

"Saplings are available at the Forest Department’s nurseries, and other departments should contact the Forest Department for them," he noted.

Moreover, he informed me, "Various sales points are set up at different locations to provide saplings to the public during the Monsoon Tree Planting Campaign."
