Meeting Reviews Ongoing Crackdown On Electricity Theft

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Aug, 2024) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Punjab Waqas Nazir on Monday presided over a follow-up video link meeting regarding the prevention of electricity theft and crackdown against the culprits.
The meeting was attended by officers from Punjab Police, LESCO and FIA with SSP Operations Lahore Tasawer Iqbal, RPOs and DPOs of Sheikhupura and Sahiwal regions participating via video link.
The meeting reviewed the ongoing crackdown against electricity thieves and the targets set in the previous meeting. In the meeting all the officers agreed to make the crackdown more effective and strict against electricity thieves, who are causing losses to the national exchequer.
The DIG Operations instructed police officers to ensure that FIRs are registered promptly on the complaints sent by LESCO.
He directed that actions be taken against major criminals involved in electricity theft in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana, Kasur, and Sahiwal without delay. He emphasised that Punjab police teams will continue to provide every possible assistance to LESCO in their crackdown against electricity thieves.
Waqas Nazir directed that the conviction rate in electricity theft cases be improved to 85%, and that proclaimed offenders involved in electricity theft cases be promptly brought under legal jurisdiction and given appropriate punishments. He also instructed that data sharing with LESCO teams be updated to address discrepancies in the records. The DIG said that complaints against LESCO employees who assist electricity thieves should be sent to FIA. The meeting also included briefings and various suggestions from police, LESCO, and FIA officials.
