MEPCO To Install Smart Meters On Domestic Connections

Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) decided to install smart meters on domestic connections to ensure proper monitoring of electricity pilferage
An official source informed APP here on Thursday that initially the smarts meters would be installed in a gated residential colony with security and later this would be expanded under the project.
He said that Mepco completed installation of smart meters on 60,000 tubewells and 4,000 industrial connections across the region.Smart meters would be monitored from the Mepco headquarters and electricity pilferage and other issues could be identified from the control room,he added.
He said the meters have been installed at top of the pole and made operational on these connections and positive results were being noticed.
The sources informed that the smart meters have been installed at the connections using more than 20 KVA electricity.
The price of a smart meter was Rs 18,000 which would be recovered from the consumers in installments in their electricity bills, he maintained.
