NA-140: Lahore High Court Declines Request To Stop Notification Of Successful Candidate

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a petition for vote recounting in NA-140, declined the request to stop notification of successful candidate from the constituency.

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Aug, 2018 ) :The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of a petition for vote recounting in NA-140, declined the request to stop notification of successful candidate from the constituency.

Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh heard the petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz runner-up candidate Rana Hayat for vote recounting in the constituency.

During the hearing, Hayat's counsel argued the petitioner contested election from NA-140 and got 124,385 votes whereas the rival successful PTI candidate Talib Hassan Nakai obtained 124,621 votes.

He mentioned that the successful candidate had lead of only 236 votes whereas 7,453 votes were rejected.

He submitted that the returning officer dismissed application for vote recount without any logical reason. He pleaded with the court to issue directions for vote recount in the constituency.

He also requested to stop notification of successful candidate.

However, the court declined the request and adjourned the matter till August 2 while seeking record from the ElectionCommission.
