NA Speaker refers matter of Islamabad quota to Cabinet Committee

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 04th Oct, 2016 ) : Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday referred the matter of allocating separate quota for the domicile holders of Islamabad in the Federal government services to the Cabinet committee.

Minister for Law Zahid Hamid said that Islamabad domicile holders can compete for 50 percent and this exercise could be made after census. He requested the parliament to constitute separate committee on this mater or send this matter to cabinet committee.

Earlier, the matter was raised by MNA Asad Umar in his resolution, urging to allocate separate quota for domicile holders of federal capital in the federal government services. He said that as there was no appropriate forum or any representative assembly for Islamabad so this matter could be raised only in the parliament to give rights to the citizens of the federal capital.

He said that presently the domicile holders of Islamabad were being considered in the quota fixed for Punjab province and urged to have separate quota for the federal capital. Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho supported the resolution for having separate quota for Islamabad.

Dr Shireen Mazari also supported the resolution and said that this quota should be observed for benefit of locals.

Sahibzada Tariq Ullah supporting the resolution said that the federal capital has separate identity and need to have separate system for locals.

He said this facility should be given to the people of Islamabad for government services. Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour fully supporting the resolution said that Islamabad should have separate quota in the federal government services.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that legal experts should discuss this matter with the consultation of provinces. Abdul Waseem said the quota should be implemented but he said several times such things were used to give favour to some one.

He said merit should be the top priority. Abdul Sattar Bachani supported the resolution and asked to have quota for people of Islamabad. He said that people from rural areas come to urban areas to get education and jobs.

He said that this quota should be obtained from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtukhwa. Those MNAs who spoke on the resolution included Arifa Khalid, Naema Kishwar, Ali Muhammad Khan, Abdul Rasheed Godal, Sher Afghan Khan, Sheharyar Afridi, Maulana Qamarudin, Dr Faouzia Ameen and Ayesha Gulalae.
