NAB Puts Investigation Of Khawaja Asif's Corruption Into Cold Storage

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th March, 2019) NAB is said to have shelved investigation into alleged widespread corruption and money laundering running into Rs 3.66 billion case against Khawaja Asif.Chairman NAB Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal had ordered investigation against former foreign minister on August 16, 2018 and the case was handed over to the respective Director General NAB.Khawaja Asif is accused of having been involved in money laundering of billion of rupees by accepting the Iqama of UAE.As per law the NAB was to finalize the inquiry against Khawaja Asif within 10 weeks but these investigations have not been even started after lapse of 10 months.The concerned investigation officers have put the investigation into cold storage.

The chairman NAB has also become indifferent to his responsibility of taking the investigations to its final phases.Khawaja Asif is charged with plundering national wealth and accumulating assets in Pakistan and abroad beyond his known source of income.

Khawja Asif is spending his allegedly ill gotten wealth extravagantly owing to snail paced NAB proceedings.Sources said that NAB has not concluded investigation into alleged corruption of Rs 259 in Sukkar-Multan Motorway project despite the fact that communication ministry has handed over all the documents in respect of this scam to NAB.

The minister for communication Murad Saeed has also demanded for early finalization of investigation into this scandal. A Chinese company, Nawaz Sharif, former chairman NHA Ashraf Tarar and other senior officials have been held responsible in this scam.Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has also pointed out financial irregularities of billion of rupees in this project and even then NAB has failed in making any headway in investigation into the scam despite lapse of 10 months.The corrupt elements have indulged in corruption of billion of rupees by changing map, material and design.
