Nadra denies CTD claims: Zeeshan’s CNIC not in suspected category

The CTD had claimed that Zeeshan belonged to a banned terrorist outfit.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 21st January, 2019) The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had claimed that Zeeshan, who was killed in the Sahiwal encounter, belonged to a banned terrorist outfit.

Rejecting this claim, the mother and neighbours of Zeeshan said that they never found him involved in any such activity.

Meanwhile, Nadra has also rejected the claim of the CTD.

According to the statement issued by Nadra, Zeeshan’s CNIC is not included in the suspected category.

Nadra, however, declared the CNICs of Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman as suspected.

The CTD had shown only half copy of Zeeshan’s ID card and had declared him a friend of Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman.

The CTD in its statement had said that the team was informed to intercept the vehicle in question. “When the vehicle was intercepted at 12:15 noon on Saturday, it did not stop. The driver started shooting at the CTD team. The car was followed by a motorcycle with two riders. They also fired at the CTD team. The shootout resulted in death of one terrorist Zeeshan and accompanying family members,” the statement read.

“The vehicle had tinted glass, hence children on rear seat were not seen. The family became victim of circumstances.

“Zeeshan misused his position and gave the family a ride to Burewala. In fact, Zeeshan was carrying explosives of terrorists who were travelling on the motorcycle. After dropping the family in Burewala, Zeeshan had planned to drop explosives somewhere in Khanewal or Multan,” CTD said in the statement.

The statement added that the Khalil family may not have been “aware of the status of Zeeshan, who had become a terrorist. The family was trapped by the terrorists. They became victim of circumstances.”

The CTD further said that when the news of the incident was aired on tv, there were terrorists hiding in Zeeshan’s house who saw the news and fled from the house. They were, however, spotted by intelligence surveillance.

Sahiwal encounter

Four people including two women were killed during an action by CTD in Sahiwal on Saturday.

Reportedly, the incident occurred at Qadirabad where a team of CTD Lahore, taking action against a suspected car, shot dead two men and two women.

Later, the CTD team took the bodies, children and other valuables from the vehicle. However, the team later on dropped the children at a filling station.

With the alleged shady encounter on a highway in Sahiwal district, a big question mark was posed on the functioning of Punjab Police.

The victims were first declared as kidnappers and then as terrorists from a proscribed group by the police force, which raised eyebrows on the alleged shootout, followed by contradictory witnesses' narratives.

As the incident drew wide ire and condemnation, demands were also made for a thorough probe.
