NAP to continue till end of terrorism: Ashtar Ausaf

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -5th Sep,2016) : Attorney General of Pakistan, Ashtar Ausaf said on Monday that National Action Plan (NAP) was an integrated plan which would continue till the end of terrorism.

Talking to media after chairing the meeting of a sub-committee constituted to review three points of NAP including execution of convicted terrorists, special trial courts and revamping of criminal Justice system here, he said the meeting reviewed undertrial cases, appeals and investigation issues.

He said that the meeting decided to take steps for cancellation of bails and vacation of stay orders in undertrial cases. He said that meeting also emphasised the need for provision of adequate security to the witnesses and get their statements recorded in the trial courts.

The meeting also decided to ensure completion of record in appeals before courts besides steps for early hearing of cases pending in the Apex Court, he added. Ashtar said that shortage of judges was also discussed in the meeting and it was agreed to fill it.

Inspector general of police Punjab and Home secretary has been asked to assess security of Anti-terrorist Courts' judges and their families.

The provincial government will be asked to ensure the security of judges, if any shortcomings were found, he added.

The meeting urged the authorities concerned to review impediments for delay in filing of the challans (Charge-Sheets) and after removing them, ensure submission of challans on time, he added. He said that the meeting also discussed the further legislation for improving existing laws besides enhancing coordination between Federal and provincial governments for quick disposal of cases.

To a question, He said that the meeting was informed that 44 hard core terrorists were arrested and 1744 cases were registered wherein most of challans had been filed. Earlier, Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf chaired the meeting of Sub-committee constituted by security advisor/convenor of implementation committee for National Action Plan.

The sub-committee comprises of federal secretaries, provincial secretaries, prosecution heads and others.
