NATCO Modernized, Turned Into Profit-making Entity: Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan

Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafizur Rehman Tuesday said the government was taking drastic measures for socio-economic development of the area, turning around the GB's largest transport company-Northern Areas Transport Company(NATCO) as profit-making entity.

GILGIT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Nov, 2018 ) :Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafizur Rehman Tuesday said the government was taking drastic measures for socio-economic development of the area, turning around the GB's largest transport company-Northern Areas Transport Company(NATCO) as profit-making entity.

Receiving briefing on the NATCO performance, the GB CM said the country was in serious financial straits and there was a ban on recruitment in the NATCO due to its fragile financial position over the last two years, but now the company had turned into profit-making organization due to robust economic policies of the provincial government.

He said that company's mode of service delivery had been put on modern lines, offering online ticketing system for the convenience of passengers, adding that refrigerated containers were also being introduced to transport fruit consignments intact to other parts of the country.

He said introducing urban transport system was on the priority list of the government and directed that paper work in this regard be finalized soon.

He added as many as 30 state of the art buses would be procured for the fleet of the urban transport system to provide modern travel facilities to commuters.

He said the traffic system was also being improved in the GB and in this regard he added plan costing Rs 80 million had been approved.

The chief minister also took notice of passengers' complaints regarding stopover of the NATCO buses at substandard hotels on way to Islamabad and constituted committed for investigating the issue.
