ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd May, 2018 ) :Former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Wednesday concluded his statement in Avenfield property reference in which he informed the accountability court that he would not present any witness in his favour as the prosecution had already failed to prove its allegations against him.
He stated that the corruption references that were filed on the basis of Panama papers against him had a long story. Some people were feeling ease after his ouster from the prime minister office, he said.
Nawaz Sharif said previously an attempt was made to weaken his government in 2014 through a sit-in and demonstrations. A state institution's head advised him to resign from the post, or go on a long leave, he said before the court.
He said pressure increased on him as soon as the treason case was initiated against former president General (reted) Pervez Musharraf.
Former prime minister said when Musharraf left for the court in 2014 he directly went to the hospital.
Musharraf pretended to be sick and avoided the case hearings, he added. The former dictator, he said, could not be sent behind bars even for one hour. He said the sole purpose of the 2014 sit-ins was to pressurize him.
The state buildings including ptv, parliament, PM House, President House etc were not safe from the plans of the elements causing unrest, he added. Former prime minister said that he would not present any witness in his favor as the prosecution could not prove its case, adding that he had left justice to the court.
Later, the court adjourned hearing of the case till Thursday (tomorrow). Mariam Nawaz and Capt. (retd) Safdar also appeared before the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir.
