Opposition Accepts Election Results By Participating In CM, Speakers' Polls: Experts

Political and legal experts here Thursday said smooth conduct of election for the office of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of KP Assembly has proved that opposition parties accepted results of the general elections 2018, which was good omen for strengthening of democratic and parliamentary system in the country.

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Aug, 2018 ) :Political and legal experts here Thursday said smooth conduct of election for the office of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of KP Assembly has proved that opposition parties accepted results of the general elections 2018, which was good omen for strengthening of democratic and parliamentary system in the country.

They said an overwhelming participation of PMLN, PPP, MMA, ANP and other mainstream political parties in election for office of Chief Minister, Speaker and Deputy Speaker in KP Assembly besides for offices of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of National Assembly testified that opposition parties have accepted overall results of the general elections 2018.

Professor Dr A.Z. Hilali, Chairman Political Science Department, University of Peshawar told APP that participation of political parties of opposition in election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker in National Assembly in provinces and for offices of KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan was a good omen for continuity of democratic and parliamentary system in the country.

"Democracy is a complete system where the powers and functions of President, Prime Minister, Chairman Senate and Speaker National Assembly besides national institutions were clearly defined, therefore, it was the responsibility of the newly elected Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and Speaker KP Assembly Mushtaq Ghani to take opposition parties on board on all issues of national importance during process of legislation for benefit of people," he remarked.

He said great responsibilities rest on the shoulders of Speaker to guide the new MNAs and MPAs of both treasury and opposition benches and ensure discipline in the House imperative for smooth working of the system.

The democratic system in the country will flourish only when all national institutions work in their constitutional domain and perform duties in accordance with constitution of Pakistan, he explained.

Professor Dr. Hilali said Parliament, being mother institution in a democratic system, would guide the nation by making legislation for facilitation of people and interest of the country and the role of Speaker would carry immense importance for fulfillment of this prime obligation.

PTI MNA elect Nasir Khan Musazai said the participation of opposition parities including PMLN and PPPP during Speaker and Deputy Speaker of National Assembly and Chief Minister KP, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of KP Assembly have clearly showed acceptance of election results as well as mandate of PTI by the joint opposition .

He said no justification of hue and cry of opposition over election results was left now following active participation in electoral process in the centre and provinces.

Musazai reiterated that PTI will take opposition parties along on all key issues of national importance and would welcome their positive suggestions and proposals during legislation process in the centre and provincial assemblies.

Terming PMLN's protest during oath taking of Speaker National Assembly as irrational and illogical, Musazai said such negative attitude would serve nothing but pass a wrong message locally and abroad as well.

He said Prime Minister designate Imran Khan has witnessed the PMLN's agitation with calm and patience that showed his respect for mandate of opposition.

"Imran Khan was congratulated by the world leaders and his first address after winning 2018 election was received well in national and international circles," he said, adding PTI is going to make a strong government in Centre, KP and Punjab provinces and will announce portfolio of the Federal and Provincial Ministers with consultations.

The PTI leader said Pakistan was confronted with a number of challenges on internal and external fronts and it is high time for politicians to demonstrate unity and national cohesion for amicable solutions of all these issues.

The lawyers and civil society have also termed participation of opposition parties in electoral process of CM, Speaker and Deputy Speakers acceptance of the mandate of PTI achieved by it in 2018 elections and termed it a good omen to carry democratic system forward.
