Opposition Senators Criticize Amended Finance Bill

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Sep, 2018 ) :Senators from opposition benches Monday criticized the Finance Supplementary (Amendment) Bill, 2018 and urged the government to avoid imposing new taxes.

Speaking in the Senate on the finance bill, Gen (R) Abdul Qayyum claimed that foreign direct investment, tax collection and tax to GDP ratio had increased during the tenure of the previous government.

He asked the government to privatize the institutions which were not profitable.

Senator Sardar Yaqoob Nasir said the poor people were expecting some good steps for them and urged the government to fulfill its promises made with the masses.

He observed that the government wanted to impose new taxes in the mini budget which would create difficulties for the poor.

Senator Syed Muzaffar Shah said the agriculture sector was contributing almost 36% share to the GDP of the country. The government should take steps for the betterment of farmers and also announce an agriculture package, he added.

Senator Abdul Ghafoor Haidri said increasing taxes would not affect the owners of industries as it would only make the life of poor people miserable.
