PACC to address issues of vulnerable segments: Chairperson BISP Dr Sania Nishtar

Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Dr Sania Nishtar said Poverty Alleviation and Coordination Council (PACC) formed by the present government to synchronize all the state-run social protection programmes will help address the issues of vulnerable segments of the society

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jan, 2019 ) :Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Dr Sania Nishtar said Poverty Alleviation and Coordination Council (PACC) formed by the present government to synchronize all the state-run social protection programmes will help address the issues of vulnerable segments of the society.

Chairperson emphasized the importance of the programme while correlating its significance with top five United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including Poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being quality education and gender equality.

The chairperson was speaking to a delegation of United Nations led by President United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Maria Fernanda Espinosa who called on her the other day.

Dr. Maleeha Lodhi Pakistan's Permanent representative to United Nations also attended the meeting along with other representatives from United Nations.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Sania Nishtar said PACC will help synergies the efforts of different organizations to provide relief to the poor segments of society in effective way.

Chairperson termed the social protection and poverty reduction as the foremost priority of the present government. She also shared that the programme is apolitical in nature and multifaceted to address the most vulnerable segment of the society.

In her brief remarks, Mar�a Fernanda Espinosa appreciated the work and effort being put in by the organization at the national scale for poverty alleviation and socio-economic activities in the country.

Terming the programme as "Revolutionary Programme", she expressed that it is more of a complete strategy for poverty reduction, which will have surely far-reaching impact on the society.
