PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jul, 2025) Senior Vice President (SVP) Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI), Zia ul Haq Sarhadi has welcomed signing of trilateral agreement to build rail link between Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
“The project will facilitate regional, transit, and bilateral trade among participating countries besides supporting both passenger and freight services,” Zia commented.
In a press statement issued here on Saturday, Zia Sarhadi who is also Executive Member Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) said it’s a very welcoming development that a railway link will be developed for connecting Afghanistan and Central Asian states with sea ports of Pakistan.
It merits a mention here that on July 16, 2025 Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan signed the Framework Agreement on the Joint Feasibility Study for the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Project in Kabul.
“This strategic railway line, approximately 681 kilometers long, will pass through Afghanistan and connect Central Asian countries to the markets of South Asia, providing a new and shorter trade route between North and South Asia,” Zia added.
Zia said the agreement for laying of a railway line was reached between the three regional countries in 2023, to build a rail link, which will pass through Termiz in Uzbekistan, Mazar-i-Sharif and Logar in Afghanistan and enter Pakistan via the Kharlachi border crossing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The project on completion will usher in a trade revolution in the region by economically benefitting all the partners besides other countries and people, he expressed the hope.
The project can generate billions of Dollars in annual revenue and create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities in the region.
Zia appreciated the economic vision of Prime Minister, Shabaz Sharif that will prove highly beneficial for Pakistan in the coming years.
He termed the Railway Corridor as a major milestone in advancing regional connectivity and economic integration that would connect Central Asian countries to Pakistani seaports through Afghanistan.
