Pakistan Maritime Security Agency launches dedicated mobile application for safety of fishermen

Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) here on Tuesday launched its Mobile Application, "Assistance, Anytime, Anywhere at Sea (AAAS)" for fishermen in particular and seafarers in general.

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Nov, 2018 ) :Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) here on Tuesday launched its mobile Application, "Assistance, Anytime, Anywhere at Sea (AAAS)" for fishermen in particular and seafarers in general.

The launching ceremony was attended by Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat HI (M) as the chief guest with flag officers, senior fishery officials from Sindh and Balochistan besides representatives of fishermen community also present on the occasion.

Director General Pakistan Maritime Security Agency, Rear Admiral Zaka Ur Rehman SI (M) sharing details of the facility said AAAS is an online application to facilitate mariners including fishermen operating within territorial waters of the country.

"User can send emergency signal and location for immediate assistance anytime, anywhere within the territorial waters of the country," he said mentioning that AAAS is available in four languages including urdu, English Sindhi and Balochi.

"The prime feature of the application is to provide emergency alert to assisting agencies in Pakistan for Search and Rescue mission.

Rear Admiral Zaka ur Rehman in his welcome address said PMSA being sole Law Enforcement Agency at sea is fully committed to efficiently regulate international laws and conventions.

"Pakistan has a large coast line of approximately 1000 Kms and PMSA is responsible for Search and Rescue of an area 840 nautical miles from Pakistan Coast to deep sea," he said mentioning that all relevant obligation towards stakeholders are duly realized.

The authority was said to also run and maintain on round the clock basis Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and Disaster Response Centre (DRC) to respond any emergency at sea.

To supplement and further streamline these facilities, he said AAAS online application has been introduced to help fishermen facing any problem in the open sea.

The Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat addressing the ceremony said fishermen of the country were an asset for the nation with crucial role in strengthening the economy and safeguarding natural resources.

He appreciated that protection of fishing vessels and also of fishermen at sea was being accorded due priority by PMSA.

The chief guest of the ceremony also congratulated PMSA and Pakistan Navy for developing the software through indigenous resources, both human and material.

He also sought cooperation of fishermen community for the improvement of their protection in open and deep waters against odd situations.
