Pakistan, SCO's Members Stand Together To Promote Regional Peace: Spokesperson

Beijing, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2018) : Adviser to Prime Minister Nasser Khan Janjua attended the 13th meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Security Council Secretariat held here on Monday.
Chinese State Councilor Zhao Kezhi chaired the meeting. It was also attended by the Deputy National Security Adviser of India Rajinder Khanna and representatives of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
The meeting will continue till tomorrow. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Lu Kang, the main challenges before the SCO's member States include: first, how to maintain peace, security and stability in the region, and second, combat the terrorist forces in the region and combat transnational crimes including drug trafficking.
This was the first meeting of the SCO's secretariat after the expansion of the SCO. Lu Kang said, China hope and believe that with the expansion of the SCO, the potential of the organization to cooperate in the security field will be further developed.
Cooperation in the security field will achieve even more results.
We all know that the international situation has undergone profound changes. The common threats and challenges faced by the SCO member states are also increasing.
They need to develop consensus and common ground to address the security challenges. The meeting focused on issues including the regional security situation and security cooperation among the SCO members.
The Primary task of the meeting was to prepare for the political and security preparations for the Qingdao Summit, to be held next month. According to the spokesperson, during the meeting all parties exchanged in-depth opinions on issues such as the security situation in the SCO region, cooperation in cracking down on "three forces," drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, and safeguarding international information security.
China, he added believes that with the joint efforts of all parties, this meeting will further consolidate the consensus of SCO member states on security cooperation and inject new impetus for cooperation among member states in the security field.
