Pakistan Sweet Home (PSH) Marked 100th Birth Anniversary Of Nelson Mandela

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Jul, 2018 ) :Nelson Mandela International Day celebrations was held here at Pakistan Sweet Home (PSH) on Wednesday aiming to promote Nelson Mandela's values and dedication to the service of humanity in the areas of human rights, reconciliation, gender equality, the rights of children and other vulnerable groups.
High Commissioner of Republic of South Africa Mpendulo Jele was the chief guest on the occasion.
Patron in Chief of Pakistan Sweet Home Zammurud Khan, Director of United Nations Information Centre Vlastimil Samek and Resident Coordinator of United Nations Pakistan Neil Buhne and a large number of PSH children also attended the celebrations.
Speakers paid tributes to the life and services of Nelson Mandela. They highlighted various aspects of Nelson Mandela's life and struggle.
Mpendulo Jele said this year we are celebrating 100th birth anniversary of Nelson Mandela as he was born in 1918. Nelson Mandela was a South Africa revolutionary politician and philanthropist, who served as president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, he added.
He said we should take each day as Nelson Mandela Day to work for betterment of humanity. He stressed on the students and participant to follow Nelson Mandela vission.
He thanked The PSH students for organizing special commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day.
Speakers while paying tribute to the great leader of international stature said Nelson Mandela was a country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election.
He was awarded the World's Children's prize 2005, and elected the WCP Decade Child Rights Hero 2009, for his lifelong struggle to free the children of South Africa from apartheid.
Later, a documentary of Nelson Mandela Life Syory also screened on the occasion.
An exhibition was also arranged of photos display on Nelson's Mandela's life and messages.
The PSH students also performed cultural performance and a quiz competition was also arranged among the children.
Nelson Mandela International Day 2018 marked 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela (July 18, 1918). The centenary is an occasion to reflect on his life and legacy, and to follow his call to "make of the world a better place."The Nelson Mandela Foundation dedicated this year's Mandela Day to Action Against Poverty, honouring Nelson Mandela's leadership and devotion to fighting poverty and promoting social justice for all.
