Parliamentarians' caucus planned to protect child rights

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -5th Sep,2016) : The Punjab Assembly members' caucus would be set up for effective protection of child rights in the province. The caucus would be established and run through chief provincial commissioner for children of the Ombudsman Office, and would be comprising parliamentarians.

This was decided in a meeting, presided over by Punjab's Chief Commissioner for Children Nasreen Farooq Ayub here on Monday. Nasreen Farooq apprised the participants about proposed role of the parliamentarians' caucus in providing conducive environment to children.

The caucus would work as a policy-platform to guide and strengthen the government's efforts, evaluate laws relevant to the protection of rights of the children and to ensure the implementation of laws concerned, she said.

The members of this caucus would maintain liaison with the all departments to help adopt effective approach in policymaking.

Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Chairman Qamar-ul-Islam said on the occasion that education strengthens children with knowledge and provides them with a forward-looking approach to excel in life.

The whole society should come forward to ensure that no child is left behind, he added. The chairman said the PEF had provided free schooling facilities to 2.1 million most-deserving children in the province which helped in eradication of child labour.

The civil society should support the government in achieving target of 100 per cent enrolment by 2018, he added. He said that the Punjab government has prioritised the protection of rights of children through education promotion, he concluded. Ehsan Ghani, Abdul Basit Khan, Syed Ali Gillani, Shaheen Ateeq-ur-Rehman and others also spoke on the occasion.
