No religious channel included in the list send to cable operators by PEMRA
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 21st May, 2018) Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has shut down all religious tv channels, including QTV.
No religious channel is included in the list send to cable operators by PEMRA. The authority had directed the cable operators to only air the channels mentioned in the listen. The cable operators have started implementing the decision. The list was issued by PEMRA’S Enforcement DG Haji Adam.
Meanwhile, the act has agitated the people as they are not able to watch religious channels in Ramzan.
The Islamabad High Court had ordered to ban all Ramzan transmissions during the month. However, PEMRA taking a leap forward to the decision has banned religious channels as well.
People said that they like watching these channels in Ramzan but PEMRA banned them.
This act is highly condemnable, they said.
On the other hand, the cable operators said that they are only implementing the orders issued by PEMRA.
No 'circus' or neelam ghar will be allowed to be broadcast on TV this Ramazan, Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said on May 8 while hearing a case concerning the implementation of the broadcast regulator's code of conduct for Ramazan transmissions and morning shows on television.
A Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) representative present for the hearing submitted the watchdog's guidelines for Ramazan transmissions and assured the court that all channels would have to abide by them.
