PFA confiscates huge quantity of expired ingredients in ice-cream factory

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Aug, 2024) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Thursday conducted a raid on an ice-cream

factory on Multan Road and imposed a heavy fine on using expired ingredients.

During the inspection, 975-kg of expired milk powder, 893-kg of expired strawberry

and vanilla flavors, and 355-kg of expired cocoa powder were seized

and destroyed.

A fine of Rs 500,000 was imposed on the factory, said by Director General PFA Asim Javed,

in a press statement, issued here on Thursday.

The raid was carried out following the discovery of expired raw materials being used

in the production of ice cream.

DG Asim Javed stated that expired strawberry and vanilla flavors were being used in the production

process. The inspection also revealed unsanitary conditions in the mixing area, with rust and fungus

on the walls, dirty floors, and standing water. Additionally, automatic machines were found to be

operating with faulty settings and without necessary maintenance.

DG Asim Javed expressed deep concern over the discovery of expired raw materials at such

a prominent brand’s factory. He emphasized that the use of expired ingredients in children's food

products was extremely harmful to health.
