The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday foiled an attempt to supply thousands of litres chemically contaminated milk which was being carried on a tanker from Kasur to Lahore
On a tip-off, the PFA confiscated 10,000 litres thick liquid of adulterated milk by placing picket under the supervision of PFA Director General Captain (R) Muhammad Usman.
Usman said the PFA dairy teams had taken milk samples for a screening test on the spot and took action against milk supplier on founding results not up to the mark.
He said that teams also raided a factory at Wah Kharan village in Kasur and confiscated hazardous powder, ghee, chemicals and other raw material which were being used in the preparation of impure milk.
Accused Shafiq Bhatti fled before reaching the PFA team, he said and added this thick liquid was supplied to local milk sellers in different areas of Lahore and sold to customers after adding water in it.
The use of tainted milk poses a threat to users health, he said and asserted that execution of pasteurization law was the only solution to ensure provision of milk free from any contamination in Punjab.
The PFA DG said, "The PFA will give a gift to Lahories by starting a pilot project of milk pasteurization from Lahore for which we are doing a survey of different areas of the metropolitan city. The authority is fully committed to bring down wicked practice of milk adulteration and sale of unpacked/loose milk will be banned after enacting pasteurisation law by 2022."
