Speaking about the show, General Manager Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Ali Akbar Malik said, "Pakistani youth must be motivated to engage in mountain protection and adventure activities to understand the importance of ecosystem and environment for their future".
He said the International Mountain Day was an opportunity to create awareness about the importance of mountains of life, highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and build partnerships that will bring positive change to the world's mountains and highlands.
Pakistan is the most spectacular and fascinating region. Here, world's three famous mountain ranges meet, the Himalayas, the Karakorams and the Hindukush. The whole northern Pakistan is like a paradise for mountaineers, climbers, trekkers, hikers and anglers. Five out of 14 world's highest peaks over 8000 metres lie here in Pakistan with K2 the second highest peak, he added.
As the national tourism organization, PTDC is working to promote and develop tourism, especially in mountain areas of Pakistan. Photo exhibition was attended by a large number of students and families from the twin cities.
According to the organizers, The UN General Assembly declared 11 December from 2002 onwards every year as International Mountain Day. This special day serves to highlight the global importance of mountain ecosystems and to promote ongoing attention to the unique needs of mountain communities.
