PIMS to have new self contained specialty block: Senate told

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -7th Sept,2016) : Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), Dr. Tariq Fazal Chudhary on Wednesday informed the Senate that a project of construction of new self contained specialty block was under consideration at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

In a written reply, the minister apprised the upper house that a PC-1 for construction of new self contained specialty block in PIMS comprising a 50-bed Burn Centre, an improved Mother and Child Centre, new 200-bed Gynecology Centre and a new 100-bed Trauma Centre on the model of Punjab.

He added a new OPD of 150 consulting rooms catering for at least 3,000 consultations per day, a 200-bed Children's Hospital new block, with a 50-bed central ICU and a new Operation Theatre Complex will also be part of the project.

He said that the proposal was made under the direction of the Prime Minister for up-gradation of government health facilities in the federal capital. He said there was proposal for extension of Federal Government Polyclinic (FGPC) and for the said purpose a land piece of 2.54 acres adjacent to FGPC has been allocated and possession of the land has been taken from CDA and now feasibility study will be started soon and construction of new building will be started accordingly.

He added after the said construction the bed capacity will be increased from 545 existing to 1100 and allocation of Rs. 100 million as token allocation has been made in the PSDP of current financial year (2016-17).

He said that PIMS and FGPC hospital was providing health Services to the residents of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, their adjoining areas, Northern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

He informed the house that 422 schools and colleges were working under the administrative control of the Federal Directorate of education in Islamabad Capital Territory and at present 7890 teachers and lecturers were working in the said schools and colleges.

He said that 91 teachers were appointed in these institutions during the last three years in different grades. Responding to a question, he said that the ministry has banned raise in private schools' fees. He said Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PERA) has set standards of school buildings, furniture, faculty and other facilities for students.
