PM Announces Rs150m Reward For Arshad Nadeem Over Historic Olympic Gold Win

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-August 13rd, 2024) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a reward of PKR 150 million for Arshad Nadeem, the national hero who secured a gold medal for Pakistan at the Olympics after a 40-year wait.

The announcement was made during a grand reception held in Nadeem’s honor at the Prime Minister’s House, where he was joined by his family, government ministers, and other distinguished guests.

During his address, Prime Minister Sharif lauded Arshad Nadeem as the hero of the day and the pride of Pakistan’s 250 million citizens. “This is a moment of immense pride and joy for the entire nation,” said the Prime Minister.

“Arshad Nadeem’s victory has doubled the celebrations of our Independence Day and infused new hope into the hearts of the Pakistani people.”

The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges in the field of sports, announcing the formation of a special committee to evaluate potential initiatives.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the Sindh and Punjab governments, which have announced rewards of PKR 50 million and PKR 100 million, respectively, for Arshad Nadeem.

In addition to the PKR 150 million reward, Prime Minister Sharif made several other significant announcements.

A major road between F-9 and F-10 sectors in Islamabad will be named “Arshad Nadeem Road,” and a “High-Performance Academy” dedicated to the athlete would be established at Jinnah Stadium.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister unveiled an endowment fund of PKR 1 billion to support the needs of Pakistani athletes and declared that Arshad Nadeem will be honored with the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz.

In his speech at the event, Arshad Nadeem expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and the entire nation for the overwhelming reception he received.

“The respect given to athletes is the most valuable,” he said, adding that he was overjoyed to have won the gold medal.

He also expressed his desire to break a world record, praying for continued good health.
