The IHC on Monday rejected the petition of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif seeking bail on medical grounds.
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 25th February, 2019) The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to challenge the Islamabad High Court (IHC) decision to reject the bail plea of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on medical grounds.
Speaking to media after the court announced the verdict, PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the party is disappointed by the court decision.
“Five different medical panels had diagnosed the disease and had given recommendations for his treatment,” he said.
The PML-N leader added that the treatment required cannot be given in the jail.
“We will adopt the legal course for further action,” the PML-N leader said.
The IHC on Monday rejected the petition of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif seeking bail on medical grounds.
The court announced the judgment in an open court.
Nawaz Sharif will continue to remain imprisoned, the judgment read, adding that such a petition can’t be heard.
The IHC had on February 20 reserved a verdict on petition of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif seeking bail on medical grounds.
The former PM had filed the petition, seeking bail from the court on medical grounds on Jan 25.
Sharif's counsel, Khawaja Harris, requested to grant a bail to the PML-N supremo on humanitarian grounds and for necessary medical check-ups.
On Jan 22, Sharif was brought to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) from Kot Lakhpat jail for a medical examination amid tight security.
An accountability court judge Muhammad Arshad Malik had sentenced Sharif to seven years in prison on Dec 24 in the Al Azizia case.
