Potohar Division Police Bust Eight Gangs Of Criminals; Round Up 258 POs

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Mar, 2018 ) :Potohar Division Police have busted eight gangs of criminals, car and motorcycle lifters, street criminals and dacoits besides netting their 46 members from various areas of the district and also rounded up 258 Proclaimed Offenders (POs) during last two and half months period.
Superintendent Police (SP) Potohar Division Syed Ali talking to APP informed that Potohar Division police teams headed by DSPs/SDPOs of Cantt, Taxila and Civil Line circles, on the directive of Regional Police Officer, Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja and City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Abbasi, under his supervision managed to arrest the criminals and recovered 15 stolen vehicles, 10 motorcycles, other costly items and 25 pistols of different bores from the possession of the arrested accused.
The police traced 50 cases registered in different police stations of the division. He said, Sajjad, Sheraz and Parvaz who were the killers of Careem Cab's captain namely Sajawal Ameer, a 22-year-old, who was gunned down in 'Lakho' area in the jurisdiction of Naseerabad police station have been rounded up from different areas of the city.
The police busted the gangs including Shakura, Tasif, Mani, Noora, Zia ul Haq, Khurram, Abdul Ghaffar and Sajjad. He informed that during preliminary interrogation the arrested criminals confessed several robberies, dacoities, snatching of vehicles and motorcycles, street and other crimes.
He further said, Civil Line Police also arrested an alleged killer of the journalist, who was shot dead earlier this month in Rawalpindi. Anjum Muneeb Raja, a Sub-editor in a local daily was on his way back home on a motorbike when two motorcyclists intercepted and shot him.
The arrested accused, Qaiser Rehman, was also working with Muneeb in the same organisation, he said. On March 2, when Muneeb was returning home from work, Rehman chased and shot him six times - killing him on the spot and fled the scene, he added.
"The police managed to arrest the killer using modern investigative techniques including CCTV footage," he said. To a question he said, Potohar Division police registered 107 cases against 108 accused for having illegal weapons and recovered 84 pistols, two revolvers, six rifles, a gun, five daggers and other items.
217 FIRs were registered during last two and half month against drug paddlers and police netted 220 on recovery of 73444 grams charras, 1422 bottles of liquor, 250 grams heroin and other items. Six cases were registered against 38 gamblers during the period who were sent behind the bars and police recovered Rs85000 cash stake money and mobile phones from their possession.
Meanwhile, police conducted special operations against proclaimed offenders and succeeded to round up 36 'A' Category criminals and 222 'B' Category POs wanted in different cases.
