Practical steps needed for Kashmir’s freedom: Ghulam Muhammad Safi

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jul, 2025) On the occasion of Kashmir Accession Day, Senior Hurriyat leader and Convenor of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Ghulam Muhammad Safi, has emphasized the need for practical steps to advance the Kashmir freedom movement.

In an exclusive interview with APP on Saturday, Safi expressed gratitude to Field Marshal General Asim Munir, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and the people of Pakistan for their continued moral, diplomatic, and political support to the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

“The time has come to move beyond symbolic gestures. The youth and people of Kashmir now want to see real, tangible progress on the ground for the cause of freedom,” said Safi.

He highlighted that the government and people of Pakistan have always stood firm in support of Kashmiris' right to self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.

As part of Kashmir Accession Day commemorations, Safi said that APHC organized a major solidarity rally in Lahore, led by himself. The rally included representatives from all religious and political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Jamaat-e-Islami, and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), as well as civil society members from various walks of life.

Reiterating his long-standing stance, Safi said, “Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan. The entire nation is united and prepared to support the just cause of liberating Kashmir from Indian occupation.”

He also paid tribute to the unflinching resolve of the Kashmiri people, especially women, children, and youth, who continue to make immense sacrifices in pursuit of their right to self-determination.

"This day marks the historic resolution passed on July 19, 1947, during the Srinagar session of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, in which the people of Jammu and Kashmir expressed their desire to accede to Pakistan," he said.

Safi concluded by calling on the international community to awaken its conscience and support an actionable strategy that ensures justice, dignity, and freedom for the people of Kashmir.
