Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi acknowledges role of artists in society

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Monday said the artists were instrumental in promotion of culture and providing entertainment to the people.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2018 ) :Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Monday said the artists were instrumental in promotion of culture and providing entertainment to the people.

He assured that the government would continue to support the industry for its revival. He was talking to a delegation of prominent artists, including legendary drama, film and tv actors, singers and producers that called on him at Prime Minister's Office.

Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb, chairman Central board of Film Censor Mobashir Hassan and senior officers were also present during the meeting, PM office media wing said in a press release.

Issues related to the industry including films, TV, theater were discussed during the meeting. Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb recounted various steps taken by the government for the revival of the industry and for the welfare of the artists community.

These included among others tax exemption, tax rebate, construction of cinemas, establishment of film finance fund, film studio on public private partnership and declaring this sector as an industry.

The delegation appreciated various steps taken by the government for the support and revival of the industry. They particularly appreciated the role of minister of state for information for supporting the industry and addressing the issues of the community.

The delegation also presented before the prime minister various proposals for further promotion of the industry and for the welfare of the artists' community across the country. The prime minister directed the information ministry to include the charter of demand from the artist in the films and culture policy.
