HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Nov, 2018 ) :Hundreds of residents of Johi town of Dadu district staged a protest outside the local press club here on Sunday, decrying persistent shortage of water in their town.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Imdad Chandio said the Sindh Government had kept silence despite repeated protests of the local people.
"The shortage is affecting the humans, livestock and agriculture in the town," he claimed.
He alleged that the water of Johi was being stolen in connivance with the Irrigation officials and the same water was being sold at high rates to the people who could afford to buy.
Dr Gulzar Jumani said the shortfall of water in parts of Sindh existed due to corruption and mismanagement of the Irrigation authorities.
He deplored that the Sindh Government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) during its 10 years rule in the province had only aggravated the issues of water shortage instead of addressing them.
The human rights activist Dr Ashothama Luhano said water was a fundamental right of the citizens of Pakistan and the provincial government could in no way justify its failure in supplying water to a large town of citizens.
Journalists Farooq Soomro and Mahesh Kumar, human rights activist Punhal Sario and others also spoke.
