PUC Declares Honour Killing Un-islamic

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jul, 2025) The Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) has issued a strong religious decree declaring honour killings as un-Islamic, anti-Shariah, illegal, and a form of terrorism, calling for strict legal action against the perpetrators under terrorism laws.

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, PUC Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, along with Maulana Asad Zakariya Qasimi, Maulana Tahir Aqeel Awan, Maulana Muhammad Aslam Siddiqui, Maulana Ashfaq Pitafi, Mufti Umar Farooq, and others, condemned a recent incident in Balochistan where a woman was reportedly killed in the name of ‘honour,’ the video of which went viral on social media.

The council demanded the Chief Minister of Balochistan, the Governor, and the Inspector General of Police to immediately arrest those responsible and register cases against them under anti-terrorism laws.

“The culprits should be prosecuted in the same area where the crime occurred, and justice must be delivered without delay,” the statement read.

The religious scholars emphasized that islam strictly prohibits honour killings, and such acts are a grave violation of Islamic teachings. “Seeking a woman’s consent before marriage is a clear requirement of Shariah, and there are numerous examples of this in Islamic jurisprudence,” they added.

The PUC urged the government and judiciary to take honour killings seriously and ensure that such crimes are no longer tolerated in the name of culture or tradition.
