Speaker Punjab Assembly Ch. Pervaiz Elahi said on Wednesday that there was no rule in the by-laws of the Punjab Assembly under which speaker could issue the production orders of any arrested member.
Talking to the media persons after attending a mass-wedding ceremony in Daska, he said that Shehbaz Sharif remained Punjab Chief Minister for at least ten consecutive years but he did nothing to make rules in the Punjab Assembly's by-laws regarding empowering the provincial assembly speaker to issue the production orders of any arrested member of the Punjab assembly.
He said the country's other three provinces Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, except Punjab, had such rule in by-laws which empower their speakers to issue the production orders of the detained members.
He said that arrests of the local politicians had begun in the regime of Shehbaz Sharif, now they (the PML-N leaders) were facing the same arrests as well.
Replying to a question about the arrest of Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Speaker Punjab Assembly Ch.
Pervaiz Elahi said the PML-N was now facing 'tit for tat', besides, reaping the same as it sowed during its ten years long rule in Punjab.
Pervaiz Elahi said the PML-Q was completely satisfied over the 100 days performance of the PTI government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
He said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was working independently against corrupt elements, saying that the accountability process was completely transparent.
Speaking on the occasion, Pervaiz Elahi said the government was focusing on social welfare as the province and its people were the top priorities of the government.
The Federal and provincial governments were putting all efforts in improving the living standard of people, he added.
PML-Q's local MPA, Bao Muhammad Rizwan, PTI stalwart, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan and other local leaders of the PML-Q were also present on the occasion.
