Punjab Govt Aims To Run Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital Under Sustainable Model: Minister Salman

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the government is committed to operating the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research (NSICT&R) under a sustainable and efficient model to ensure long-term service delivery for cancer patients
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2025) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the government is committed to operating the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research (NSICT&R) under a sustainable and efficient model to ensure long-term service delivery for cancer patients.
He was chairing a meeting regarding the NSICT&R at the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company (PHIMC) office on Thursday. The meeting focused on reviewing various operational models for running the upcoming cancer hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister described NSICT&R as a flagship project of the Punjab government. “This will be the largest cancer hospital in Asia,” he said, adding that the facility will offer comprehensive care for patients, including those at stage 4.
“Insha Allah, world-class cancer treatment and research facilities will be made available here,” he affirmed.
Khawaja Salman Rafique emphasized the importance of building a robust, sustainable framework to ensure the smooth and long-term functioning of the institute. He noted that the hospital is expected to become a beacon of hope for thousands of cancer patients across the country.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Department Azmat Mahmood Khan, CEO PHIMC Dr. Ali Razaq, as well as representatives from the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) and consulting firm Grant Thornton Anjum Rehman.
