LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2024) Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani has said that the provincial government is taking vigorous steps to boost export of mangoes.
He was speaking at the second day of the mango festival at a Multan university, according to a press release issued here. Kirmani said agricultural research centres were being upgraded as per the directives of the Punjab chief minister to achieve desired results. He said that experienced researchers would be hired for agricultural research in accordance with the orders of the Punjab CM.
It was a pleasant surprise to see more than 100 varieties at the mango festival, he said adding that participation of a large number of exhibitors was the secret of success of the mango festival.
He said that Pakistani mangoes were recognised all over the world and the quality of Pakistani mangoes should be improved.
The Mango Research Institute would be converted into a Centre of Excellence for Modern Mango Research, he added. He said that agricultural scientists had been given the task of discovering high-demand varieties abroad.
He said that the task had been assigned to the relevant field formations to provide modern technology to the mango growers. Apart from this, the task of preparing a disease-free mango nursery has also been assigned to the researchers, he added.
