Punjab issues LoI for 40mw waste to energy generation project

Energy Department, Government of Punjab, has issued a Letter of Intent (LOI) for a 40 MW waste-to-energy project based on solid municipal waste from Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), Senate told.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Aug, 2018 ) :Energy Department, Government of Punjab, has issued a Letter of Intent (LOI) for a 40 MW waste-to-energy project based on solid municipal waste from Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), Senate told.

In a written reply to the question of Senator Muhammad Usman Khan, the Minister Incharge for Energy (Power Division) said, Development of power generation projects utilizing bagasse (sugarcane waste) is underway. Six (06) bagasse based projects of 201.1 MW cumulative capacity are operational and several other in different stages of development.

The written reply said that the Government is pursuing development of power generation projects utilizing all indigenous alternative and renewable energy resources including agriculture waste and municipal solid waste through private sector.

The private sector is being encouraged for development of power projects based on solid municipal waste. However, the waste management, which is a pre-requisite for developing waste to energy, is a function of the Provincial Governments.
