Quality Education Key To Socio-economic Development: Deputy Speaker GB

Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly Gilgit Baltistan Jaffarullah Khan on Monday underlined the need for taking more measures to promote quality education for achieving socio-economic development of the area.

In this regard, he appreciated private sector's education institutions for contributing effectively, saying, the private sector's role in providing access to education could not be overlooked. Addressing a graduation ceremony in private education institutions here, the deputy speaker LA said GB government had taken several measures to encourage parents to send their children to schools and the provincial government had done legislation against corporal punishment in educational institutions.
He said that particular piece of legislation would encourage students to regular go to schools and get education wholeheartedly. Similarly, he added, bill would be presented against subjecting under age children to labour, adding children rights would be protected by all means.
He said that GB government was taking several steps to provide access to quality education, adding free education would be provided to students of the poor families. He added that public sector schools were offering free admission with free course books to students of the area and annual intake in the government-run schools had increased in its wake.
He also highlighted role of teachers, saying they played crucial role in shaping personality building of children who were regarded as future leader of the nation. He was of the view that more training workshops should be conducted for teachers to equip them with more teaching skills according to the present day's requirements in order to gear up students for the future challenges.
