Rain, Corrective Measures Reduce Smog In Province:Punjab Environment Protection Director Naseem-Ur-Rehman.

The intermittent rain for the last two days in the provincial capital has almost washed out the smog blanketing the city earlier, says Punjab Environment Protection Director Naseem-Ur-Rehman.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Nov, 2018 ) :The intermittent rain for the last two days in the provincial capital has almost washed out the smog blanketing the city earlier, says Punjab Environment Protection Director Naseem-Ur-Rehman.
Talking to APP on Thursday the official said that if there would be more rain, the incidence of smog would diminish further in the following month.
He said that Punjab government had taken several steps to combat smog in the province, and cited measures to improve brick kilns as these were being modernised with the support of Brick kilns Owners Association.
He said that burning of garbage on roads, industrial waste including smoke emissions, smoky vehicles were the main factors causing smog.
The director urged the people to adopt precautionary measures during the smog by covering their nose and mouth and wear glasses and helmet while travelling especially on motorcycle for safety from eye infection, itchy skin, headache and other chest diseases.
He said that smog was dangerous for health and the citizens should avoid stepping out unnecessarily, wash eyes their with fresh water, and gargle after returning home.
He stressed on the promotion of tree plantation as it was the best solution to tackle smog and to keep the environment clean and fresh.
Smog, which is also known as ground-level ozone, is described as a thick yellowish layer of black fog which blocks the air particles. It is produced by air pollution made with fumes, fog and emissions.
