Reducing Emissions From Deforestation And Forest Degradation (REDD) Plus Strategy To Be Implemented Across The Country

Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) Readiness Preparation for Pakistan a foreign funded project strategy will be implemented across the country.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Oct, 2018 ) :Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) Readiness Preparation for Pakistan a foreign funded project strategy will be implemented across the country.
Senior officials of Ministry of Climate of Change told APP that the formulation of National REDD+ Strategy is based on the results of specific analytical studies and inputs received from a multi-stakeholders consultative process.
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) �Pakistan and Ministry of Climate Change through its Office of the Inspector General of Forests implementing the project with financial support of the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) of the World Bank.
An amount of US$ 3.80 million was approved by FCPF would be spent on the project to be completed by 2020.
The project is aimed at making necessary technical, institutional and legal preparations needed for formally implementing the REDD Plus Strategy in Pakistan.
REDD Plus is a mechanism of creating financial value for the carbon stored in forests, offering positive incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions from forested lands and invest in low carbon paths to sustainable development with developed countries adequate and predictable support of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
An official of Ministry of Climate Change told APP that it is necessary to increase forest cover in Pakistan in order to minimize the effects of Climate change.
He said that the Ten billion Trees Tsunami project would be implemented across the country which would make Pakistan green and pollution free.
