FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Nov, 2018 ) :Inspector General (IG) Prisons Punjab Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig said reforms were being introduced in jails to improve administrative and security system.
Talking to the media after inspecting the District Jail here on Sunday, he said a central control room was being set up to monitor activities of prisons of the province at one place.
In this connection, a prisoners management information system had been launched at the District Jail Lahore under a pilot project and this facility would also be expanded to other jails of the province very soon, he added.
He said finger prints of all prisoners would be saved which would help the police to check or inspect any prisoner at any time across the province.
The IG said family rooms had also been constructed in four jails of the Punjab, including Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad where prisoners who were in jails under 10 years or more imprisonment will be allowed to meet their families after every three months and for this purpose, rules and regulations were being framed.
He said literacy centres had been established in prisons where prisoners were being imparted vocational and religious education besides facilitating them with remission in punishment if they complete their degree courses.
DIG Prisons Abdul Rauf Rana, Superintendent District Jail Sheikh Afzal Javed and other officers were also present on the occasion.
