ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jan, 2019 ) :The representatives of civil society have demanded of the concerned quarters to set up a regulatory body to settle issues of wages of rural women artisans as they are being denied their due rights in absence of any such body.
According to them, rural women were empowering themselves by contributing their share in art and culture and display of embroideries and jewelry at different exhibitions was a source of heir economic well-being and also presenting cultural face of the country.
They face some challenges while finding appropriate market or to get reasonable wages of their work, they said.
Zeenat Khatoon, a rural craftswoman said that "I need proper earning for my dependents through my art work but I am not getting much amount from those who purchase my handmade products." The payments are even delayed and paid in installments and nobody was there to hear their complaints, she remarked.
She said that there should be a regulatory body to address these issues which will help further promote their work besides encouraging more rural women to join the field.
Robina from Dua Welfare Organization said that they were not being paid in market according to their quality of work which was discouraging them.
She said that these challenges can be overcome by commercializing the work of art and providing skill training and development.
Robina said that the art of rural women are the real assets and country's cultural identity but they were not getting due return of their work and there was no regulatory body to protect their rights.
She requested the authorities concerned to create more work opportunities for them so they could get wages according to their skills.
