According to Urdu Point sources, these reports have been spread on purpose to play with the emotions of people.

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 16th March, 2019) The reports regarding repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is incarcerated in United States for the last 16 years, have been termed false, urdu Point sources said.

According to informed sources, the reports of Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s release are fake and baseless and they lack truth.

According to Urdu Point sources, these reports have been spread on purpose to play with the emotions of people.

Moreover, none of the government officials issued a statement to confirm the development.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has also denied all such reports at a press conference on Saturday.

When asked about the reports of Dr Aafia Siddiqui being repatriated, the foreign minister said although social media has many benefits, it spreads news contrary to reality as well.

Those wanting the good of our daughter should better remain silent on such sensitive information, he added.

Qureshi said that the government is trying hard to get Dr Aafia back home and prayed that Allah succeed them in their efforts.

He said that whenever we talk to American government about her release, their law becomes a hurdle.

Aafia Siddiqui was indicted by a New York Federal district court in September, 2008 on charges of attempted murder and assault stemming from an incident in an interview with US authorities in Ghazni, charges which she denied.

After 18 months in detention, she was tried and convicted in early 2010 and sentenced to 86 years in prison.

There were media reports that Dr Aafia Siddiqui will soon return home.

This was further confirmed by actor turned anchor Hamza Ali Abbasi who took to Twitter to hint about the development.

“Heard Dr Aafia Siddiqui will be home soon... Ya Allah madad❤️” he wrote.

Meanwhile, media reports said that the Afghan Taliban have also made the demand of Aafia Siddiqui's release to the US government amid Afghan peace negotiations.

However, all such reports have turned out to be baseless.
