River Chenab runs in medium, low flood

Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said River Chenab is flowing in medium flood in Khanki-Qadirabad Reach and low flood at Marala while River Kabul continues to run in low flood in Warsak-Nowshera Reach.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Aug, 2018 ) :Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said River Chenab is flowing in medium flood in Khanki-Qadirabad Reach and low flood at Marala while River Kabul continues to run in low flood in Warsak-Nowshera Reach.

According to daily FFC report on Tuesday, all other main rivers including Indus, Jhelum, Ravi & Sutlej are flowing normal.

Actual river flows and reservoir elevations as indicates that Tarbela & Mangla reservoirs are 10.77 feet & 77.10 feet below their respective maximum conservation levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.

Present combined live storage of three reservoirs is 7.897 MAF which is 57.72 % of the total storage capacity of 13.681 MAF. Yesterday's trough of Westerly Wave over Northern parts of Pakistan today lies over Kashmir. Seasonal Low lies over Northwestern Balochistan and its trough is extending Northeastwards.

Moderate moist currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are penetrating into upper parts of the Pakistan upto 5000 feet as reported by FFD, Lahore.

Also a monsoon low has developed over Northwestern Bay of Bengal.

Under the influence of current weather system, FFD, Lahore has predicted scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls over the upper catchments of Rivers Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej besides over Lahore, Rawalpindi & Gujranwala Divisions of Punjab during the next 24 hours.

Scattered thunderstorm/ rain with isolated moderate falls may also occur over the upper catchments of Rivers Indus & Jhelum, besides Sargodha, Faisalabad & Sahiwal Divisions of Punjab during the same period.

In view of the on-going rain spell, FFD, Lahore has predicted High level flood in River Chenab at Marala, Khanki & Qadirabad including local nullahs/tributaries of Rivers Ravi and Chenab during next 24 hours.

Furthermore, water level in River Sutlej is likely to increase. Irrigation Department, Government of the Punjab and all other concerned organizations dealing with flood management are advised to ensure necessary precautionary measures as per their respective contingency plans in order to avoid loss of precious humanlives besides damage to private & public property.

Wet spell is likely to continue upto August 16, 2018.
