River Indus Continues To Flow In Medium, Low Flood: FFC

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Aug, 2024) The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that River Indus continues to run in medium flood at Chashma-Taunsa and low flood in Tarbela-Kalabagh and Guddu-Sukkur reaches respectively due to persistent high flows since August 02.

According to daily FFC report on Wednesday, river Kabul is also experiencing in low flood both at Warsak and Nowshera while the other major rivers (Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej) are discharging normal flows.

The Combined Live Storage of country's three major reservoirs (Tarbela, Mangla & Chashma) is 9.802 MAF which is 73.403 % of 13.354 MAF (Total existing Live Storage Capacity).

According to the Flood Forecasting Division (FFD), Lahore, yesterday's Well-Marked Low over Northwestern Rajasthan (India) and adjoining Pakistan has weakened into Low and remained stationary there.

Meanwhile, a fresh upper air cyclonic circulation has developed over Gangetic West Bengal (India) with trough of Westerly Wave presently prevailing over Kashmir and adjoining areas. It is likely to move away Eastwards whereas Seasonal Low present over Northeastern Balochistan. Moderate moist currents from the Arabian Sea is penetrating into upper parts of Pakistan up to 5000 feet the reporting time.

FFD has predicted scattered thunderstorm rain of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls over Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan (Zhob, Sibbi, Nasirabad & Kalat Divisions) including upper catchments of all major rivers of IRS during the next 24 hours.
