River Kabul continues to flow in low, medium flood: Federal Flood Commission

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that River Kabul continues to flow in low flood at Warsak and medium flood at Nowshera while all other main rivers including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are normal.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jul, 2018 ) :The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that River Kabul continues to flow in low flood at Warsak and medium flood at Nowshera while all other main rivers including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are normal.

According to daily FFC report on Wednesday, the actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoir levels were 1486.86 feet and 1139.45 feet respectively (63.14 feet & 102.55 feet below their respective maximum conservation levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet).

The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 4.456 MAF (32.57 % as compared to the existing combined live storage capacity of 13.681 MAF).

According to FFD, Lahore, yesterday's well marked Monsoon low over Northwestern Madhya Pradesh (India) and adjoining Southern Uttar Pradesh (India) remained stationary.

It has weakened and converted into low and is likely to further weaken.

The yesterday's trough of westerly wave over Northern parts of the country lies over Kashmir and adjoining areas. Seasonal low lies over Northern Balochistan. Weak moist currents from Bay of Bengal are penetrating into upper parts of the country upto 3000 feet.

The FFD, Lahore has predicted scattered wind thunderstorm/ rain with isolated moderate to heavy falls over the upper catchments of all main rivers including Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur & D.G. Khan Divisions) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand, Hazara,Peshawar, Kohat & D.I. Khan Divisions) during the next 24 hours.

Moderate to heavy falls at isolated places are likely to continue during the next 24-48 hours. As a result of predicted rainfall, the flood flows in tributaries of Rivers Chenab and Ravi (local nullahs) are likely to increase from Friday.
