River Kabul still runs in low flood: Federal Flood Commission

The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that all the main rivers including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal while River Kabul continues to flow in Low Flood in "Warsak-Nowshera Reach".

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Jul, 2018 ) :The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that all the main rivers including Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal while River Kabul continues to flow in Low Flood in "Warsak-Nowshera Reach".

According to daily FFC report on Friday, the actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoir levels are 1448.30 feet and 1129.65 feet respectively (101.70 feet & 112.35 feet below their respective maximum conservation levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet).

The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 2.492 MAF (18.22 % as compared to the existing combined live storage capacity of 13.681 MAF).

According to FFD, Lahore, a fresh trough of Westerly Wave lies over Northern parts of Afghanistan and is likely to affect Pakistan from July 22, 2018 onwards.

Monsoon Low yesterday over central Madhya Pradesh (India) presently prevails over Northern Madhya Pradesh (India) & adjoining Uttar Pradesh (India) and is expected to loose significance for Pakistan.

A fresh Monsoon Low has also developed over Northwestern Bay of Bengal, the track of which is being ascertained.

Seasonal Low presently lies over Northwestern Balochistan and is likely to intensify as it moves further.

Moist currents from Arabian Sea & Bay of Bengal are penetrating into upper parts of Pakistan upto 3000 feet and are likely to strengthen from July 22nd.

FFD, Lahore has predicted isolated thunderstorm/ rain with one or two moderate to heavy falls over the upper catchments of all major Rivers, besides over Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore & D.G Khan Divisions of Punjab and Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara & D.I. Khan Divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the next 24 hours.

In view of the developing meteorological conditions, the monsoon activity is likely to increase from Sunday which may cause isolated heavy falls with one or two very heavy falls over the upper catchments of rivers Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej, besides over Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha,Faisalabad & Rawalpindi Divisions of Punjab during the next 48 hours.

Scattered thunderstorm/rain with moderate to heavy falls are also expected over the upper catchments of River Jhelum, besides, Punjab (Sahiwal & D.G. Khan Divisions) during the same period. These rains may increase the flows in local Nullahs (tributaries) of Rivers Ravi & Chenab from July 23, and any likely flooding may not be ruled out.
