
Rs. 50 Million Fine On Hospitals Involved In Illegal Organ Transplantion

LAHORE,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Augst,2016) -A regulatory system will be evolved to control illegal human organs transplantation and award exemplary punishment to those found involved in such inhuman activities. A reward of Rs 1 million would be given to the person who would inform Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority (PHOTA) regarding illegal human transplant activity and his name would be kept confidential.
These decision were taken in a recent meeting chaired by Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical education Department,Najam Ahmad Shah. Monitoring and Evaluation committees headed by the DCO of the district concerned would be constituted for monitoring of hospitals providing the facility of human organs transplantation.
Monitoring and Evaluation committee would carry out surprise checking of these hospitals and send their reports to the Punjab Human Organs Transplant Authority (PHOTA).
During the inspection of the hospital to be kept under vigilance by the Monitoring and Evaluation committees,it would be verified that qualified surgeons and human resources were available in the hospital.Moreover,it was to be checked if the transplantation of the same patient was carried out which the PHOTA had given permission for.
It will be mandatory for the hospital to provide photographs of the donors and the recipients and video recording of the operation to PHOTA for verification. Moreover,before discharging the patient and the donor, post operative medical check-up must be performed.
The Punjab government will fully empower and strengthen PHOTA and for this purpose,proper legislation would be done,it was learnt.
