Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Rawalpindi on the directive of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi has launched operation against Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) and imposed fines amounting to Rs 93,000 for overcharging, overloading and other violations during last two days

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2019 ) :Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Rawalpindi on the directive of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi has launched operation against Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) and imposed fines amounting to Rs 93,000 for overcharging, overloading and other violations during last two days.

Talking to APP, Secretary, RTA, Khalid Yameen Satti informed that the Authority was taking action in accordance with the law against the rules violators.

He said, the RTA teams conducted raids at different bus stands and other points and checked violation of fares, route permits, fitness certificates and overloading and also impounded 21 vehicles.

To a question, he informed that the Authority issued 731 challan slips during March to PSVs found indulged in overcharging and overloading while 188 vehicles were also impounded.

He said, 78 vehicles for having substandard CNG cylinders and 232 which were without fitness certificates were also penalized, adding, fines amounting to over Rs 469,500 were imposed on the rules violators.

RTA squads constituted to check and prevent overcharging by the transporters, checked thousands of PSVs during last month and penalized the violators, he added.

Mobile squads were also performing duties at different public transport terminals to facilitate the people, he said.

He informed that special teams were checking fare violations and the authority was keeping a check on transporters plying on inter-city and urban routes.

The passengers should note the number of bus/wagon in case of overcharging, misbehaving etc and inform the authorities concerned, he said assuring that they would take stern action against the violators.

Several smoke-emitting PSVs plying on different routes were also impounded during the period, he added.
